“What’s the best advice you can offer about marriage?,” I asked Kathy as we walked to down the dirt road at Carillon Park during her family’s Love Shots / Lifestyle session. She started whispering to Bob, her husband of 40 years, and then looked back at me. “My mother always told me not to keep a gun in the house,” Kathy said nonchalantly, “that way when I feel like shooting my husband, I won’t be able to.” We all laughed as Bob said “As you can see, that advice has worked so far!”
Kathy’s daughter Kristen, who just recently got married herself, wanted to celebrate her parent’s 40th anniversary with some new family pictures. We also set aside some extra time to celebrate her parents with couple’s pictures.
Before the shoot, Kristen mentioned how she felt like Claire on the TV show Modern Family…specifically the family portrait episode. In the middle of the shoot, her mom also mentioned that Modern Family episode, but we all agreed that nothing could be as bad as the all-white outfits worn for the TV family’s portraits.
As we were wrapping up the shoot, Kathy walked back to me and offered a little more marriage advice, but this time not as a joke. “You know how Bob and I stayed together this long?,” She said, “We pray for our children every evening and we have a strong faith.”
Although I’m not married yet, I have full confidence in the validity of her advice. Having a marriage grounded on Jesus Christ is the best way to ensure a loving and long-lasting relationship.
Here’s a few of my favorite images from the shoot:
Matt (Bob & Kathy’s son) will be marrying Ashley in January of next year in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Matt & Ashley – You have to listen to “Go to Mexico” by Coffey Anderson. It’s a great song!
