So, when we were deciding the location of his senior portraits, we decided to find a place with a bit of concrete and a lot of space. Thomas and I agreed that a skateboarding action pose was much cooler than the old school lean-against-a-tree pose. Here’s the proof:

After showing off his skating moves for the camera, Thomas proceeded to grab a guitar from his car. What talent! I took one look at the instrument and asked, “So, do you play Gun N’ Roses style?” He laughed while shaking his head and replied, “No, I play metal.” Then I felt old for asking such a question.

Thomas – Have a great year! Go class of 2011!

It happens every year. The end of July draws near and there are flyers and signs for it all over the place. With an array of colors and styles, it tempts even the least academic soul. I was walking around Target earlier this week, hoping to see this year’s display of pastel colored mechanical pencils with 0.7mm lead and fancy folders. You know, the kind with geometric prints so cool I am sure to be the envy of those 15 cent-notebook-buyers. Did I mention I am starting graduate school, not the 8th grade?

While I was contemplating the major differences between 3-subject and 5-subject spiral bound notebooks, I overheard a couple girls talking. “Why does that folder have an ’06′ on it?,” the one girl said to the other, “I bet they are trying to make a vintage looking folder look it came from a cool older sibling who graduated in 2006.” As the two girls passed me to go look at the colored pencils, I laughed to myself. I graduated in 2006, so I guess that makes me cool?, I thought to myself.  Then, with fancy notebook in hand, I walked to the check out register, ready to begin 17th grade.

“The first time I saw her, I just knew,” said Nate with confidence. Upon hearing his statement, Jocelyn threw back her head and laughed. “It took him a while to figure out he knew,” Jocelyn said, explaining how she and Nate dated on and off before becoming serious. But Valentine’s Day changed everything.

Jocelyn walked in the door from work on Valentine’s Day, and waiting for her was a pair of stuffed animals. Between the stuffed animals was a box. Inside the box was, you guessed it, a ring! It was then that Nate asked Jocelyn to marry him and they started planning their wedding.

Soon thereafter, Jocelyn found my profile on TheKnot.com and contacted me about shooting her wedding. I’ve had a great time getting to know her and her mom over the past couple months, and I look forward to her wedding next weekend. Here are a few of my favorite shots from Jocelyn and Nate’s engagement session:

This photo is a throw back to the Beatles’ infamous cross-walk photo, as requested by the bride-to-be.
Congrats Jocelyn and Nate!

We both quickly opened our pink day-planners and scheduled a time for the shoot. Melody’s friend Sarah helped style the shoot, and let me say, she has great taste!

Here are some of the highlights:

Melody, you’re gorgeous!

I think she needs to share her hair-care secrets with the rest of the world.

This little friend interrupted our photo shoot, but I think we can assume he didn’t see where he was walking. Poor cross-eyed kitty!

Last year, I spent some time with Rylee at the park while taking her portraits. She jumped across the monkey bars, sat on a bench swing, and took time to pet a small white dog who was also playing in the grass. This year, the moment I arrived at her house, Rylee ran to the door with purple bows in her hair, screaming “Lindsay, I’m ready to have my pictures taken!!” But this time Rylee’s twin sisters, Cailin and Cameron, would be joining in the fun.

We started the day with a tea party. Rylee’s favorite cookie was swirl, and her favorite part about the tea party was pouring the tea. The twins, however, were excited about every type of cookie, and preferred to hold the spoons instead of the tea cups.

Here are a couple of my  favorite moments:
