I witnessed her transformation at Salon Ventures, which is a beautifully decorated salon filled with independently operating stylists. Below is a documentation of the styling process, with several detail shots of the modern decor at the end. Enjoy!

See that paper in her hand? This girl knows what hairstyle she wants!

Anytime I want to try something fresh or test out new camera gear, I ask her to suit up and rise to the challenge. Like clockwork she shows up at my doorstep in an AMAZING outfit and rocks the poses so I can focus on practicing new techniques.

Today I was working with some new gear for next week’s {surprise} shoot. Here’s a few of my favorite shots of my fabulous sista:

Here’s how it works: The couple chosen for the model call agree to pose for images that are used in my advertisements, website, and editorial submissions. Generally model call sessions are when I try new techniques, props, and locations- aka they are always a TON of fun.

Lafayette, Indiana. Home of Purdue football, busy highways, and my Sunday evening surprise date with Michael.

Most couples meet up for a date to attend a local show or event, eat dinner, and say their goodbyes for the evening. Michael and I each drove several hundred miles from different directions to meet up in a college town just for dinner. A wonderful sushi dinner I might add.

After 3 months of separation, it was wonderful to be able to connect with him again before he leaves on deployment later this week. We didn’t know a soul in Indiana, much less Lafayette. It even took several u-turns to finally find the Japanese restaurant. But let me just say…

Best.Date.Ever.

Here’s proof that we were having a good time, and that we didn’t want to ask the waiter to take our picture. Hence, we took it ourselves, however ensuring that the awkward camera-holding arm was not showing. Mad skills. (Don’t judge…we used a point and shoot.)

It was supposed to be 10 months.

I wasn’t supposed to see him until after he returned from Afghanistan.

He was supposed to leave the country on the first flight out after pre-deployment training ended.

We weren’t expecting a blessing, surprise, or  glimpse of one another for a very long time.

The phone rang. As I answered, I could hear excitement in the tone of his voice.

Call it a layover. Call it a day of freedom. Call it a scheduling error. Call it what you like.

I call it an 8 hour date.

We planned, plotted, and screamed with joy. This wasn’t supposed to happen.

I put a batch of brownies in the oven.

The brownies and I will travel several hours tomorrow and wait. He will travel a similar distance from a dissimilar direction and find us.

All for 8 hours of togetherness!

Anticipation. Joy. Thankfulness.
