There are some people in life that you meet, get to know, and after a few years never interact with again. The Silveys are not those people.

Shortly after my sophomore year in high school, the Silvey family moved across the street from my family. My sister and I often babysat Ben and Jake while Dave and Maggie went out on a date. When I was in college, their family moved to Texas, but recently moved back to Ohio. In the past several years, the boys have grown several feet taller and are now almost old enough to drive. (Just kidding, Maggie!)

We decided to celebrate winter and have a snowball fight lifestyle shoot outside. Maggie and Dave also recently celebrated their anniversary, so I took some love shots at the same time.

Here’s a glimpse at the fun day we had:

The Smiths are some of my favorite people on the planet. No really. I’ve spend Christmas with them for the past two years, and I am absolutely blessed to be inheriting them as in-laws.

Mike’s older brother, Todd, is pictured below with his wife Tracy and their two daughters Rachael and Katie. We did what I like to call a hybrid session… a mix of family shots and love shots of the couple without the kids. I believe it is important to celebrate love and family throughout all stages of life, not just early on with engagement and wedding photos.

Gearing up for the family group shots, everyone had to release their funny faces first:

Sasha, the fifth member of the family, was engaging me in a stare down that was inevitably going to end in someone getting scratched.

Photography has the power to capture and preserve special, intimate moments. Photography also has the ability to document stories of amazing transformations.

I, like most of us, have the will power to avoid sweet foods for a few days if I have too. The story I am about to tell in pictures demonstrates a determination and will power far beyond that of simply avoiding too many carbohydrates. Melody, one of my closest friends has faithfully spent the last 8 months losing over 70 lbs. Take a look at her inspiring journey:

The Beginning

The following image is from September 2009, about 5 months before her goal to lead a healthier lifestyle began.

In February 2010, Melody began working out at the gym on a regular basis, and signed up for Jenny Craig. I am so proud of her dedication and courage!

As the summer months ensued, when Melody achieved her 40lb weight loss goal we took some new photos:

The -40 Lb Mark

Yesterday around 8pm Melody ran up the stairs to my apartment door, and with a grin on her face exclaimed, “Guess what I did?!” And she proceeded to tell me she JUST RAN 3 MILES! I celebrated with her in the form of a happy dance.

Melody told me today that she plans to lose another 30 lbs by New Year’s Day 2011. You know what they say… new year, new you. She is an inspiration to so many people!

I love shooting a session at a client’s home. There is an inherent comfortable feeling that comes with the setting, and permeates the images.

Danielle had me shoot her senior portraits at her home today, and let me just say, it was an absolutely beautiful landscape. Ohioans typically complain about our finicky weather, but we love our fall season… it is completely saturated with yellows, reds, and oranges.

“Shorter!” was Melody’s mantra as she instructed the stylist to continue clipping more hair. With hairstyle image in hand, Melody was confident that she wanted a change, a makeover of sorts.

I witnessed her transformation at Salon Ventures, which is a beautifully decorated salon filled with independently operating stylists. Below is a documentation of the styling process, with several detail shots of the modern decor at the end. Enjoy!
